Peel it Away!

There is a peel for everything! (Well, almost.) Let's look at some of the problems that can be improved by chemical peels.

Wrinkles.

There are many chemical peels available for wrinkles. The peel that is best for fine wrinkling is the fruit acid peel. Usually a series of 4-6 are done at 2-8 week intervals.

Dyschromia (dark pigmentation in the skin).

This can include sunspots, melasma (also called the mask of pregancy but you do not need to be pregnant to experience them), freckling, liver or sunspots, and dark marks left secondary to injury or acne.

Acne.

The peels are great for unplugging the pores, speeding the clearance of acne and reducing the redness left by acne lesions. The beta hydroxy and alpha hydroxy peel can both be useful for this condition. A note about acne scarring--peels can be best used on mild to moderate scarring. The number of treatments can be 1-8 over the period of a year.

Benign skin tumors.

A special high potency agent is applied to the raised area and a milder freshening peel is applied to the regular skin.

Sun-damaged skin with precancers.

Many precancers can be removed and the newer, healthier skin can be maintained more easily.
